Maverick City, The Good News Tour at Toyota Center
A Photographer's Perspective on Maverick City Music Tour….
As a photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing a variety of live shows, but there’s something uniquely special about a night with Maverick City Music, I had the incredible opportunity to shoot their "Good News" tour at the Toyota Center in Houston, and the experience was nothing short of magical.
From the moment I entered the venue, I could feel the anticipation in the air. The crowd was buzzing, fans of all ages were chatting excitedly, and the atmosphere was charged with an energy I’ve rarely felt before at a concert. The lights dimmed, and as the first notes of the opening song reverberated through the arena, I could already sense this would be a night of spiritual connection and unforgettable music.
As a photographer, I’m often focused on capturing the perfect shot, but with Maverick City, it wasn’t just about the pictures. It was about the feeling. The performers—Chandler Moore, Naomi Raine, Tasha Cobbs and the Jay Wlakers. They commanded the stage with such authenticity, their voices filled with a raw, genuine passion. Each of them radiated a sense of joy and worship that was impossible to ignore, and it was clear that they weren’t just performing—they were inviting everyone in the arena to be part of something much larger than a concert.
I was positioned right near the stage, camera in hand, trying to catch the perfect shot as Chandler Moore's voice soared on "Man of Your Word." But honestly, the music and energy were so powerful that I found myself getting lost in it. The crowd was electric, singing along with every word, and I couldn’t help but get caught up in the emotion of it all. There’s something about seeing thousands of people united in song, lifting their hands, and feeling that palpable connection to God that makes you stop and appreciate the moment. I could see the smiles, the tears, and the hearts opening up in real time, and it made my job as a photographer feel like an honor.
The setlist was a perfect mix of reflection and celebration. Songs like "Wait on You" created moments of stillness that allowed the crowd to breathe in the presence of the music. And then, just as easily, the entire arena came alive during “Good News,” the upbeat track that had everyone clapping, dancing, and smiling. I caught some amazing photos during those high-energy moments, but it was the quieter ones—the ones where people closed their eyes in worship or lifted their hands in surrender—that really moved me.
One moment I’ll never forget was when Naomi Raine sang "Jireh." The way she belted out those lyrics, eyes closed, completely immersed in the music—it was breathtaking. As a photographer, I was trying to capture that emotion on camera, but it was hard to pull my focus from the moment itself. The entire arena seemed to stop, as if time had slowed down. I managed to get a shot of a group of fans in the crowd with their hands raised, completely lost in the worship, and it perfectly captured the essence of the night.
The stage design was minimalist yet impactful—simple but elegant lighting that complemented the worship experience without overpowering it. The visuals enhanced the music, creating a multi-sensory experience that felt both intimate and expansive, even in such a large venue. Every detail added depth to the atmosphere, and as I snapped photos, I was reminded that this was about more than just a concert. It was a divine experience.
As the show wrapped up with "Promises," I stood back for a moment to take it all in. The crowd was singing in unison, hands raised high, and the energy was contagious. I couldn’t help but feel grateful—not just for the opportunity to be there as a photographer, but for the chance to witness so many people coming together to celebrate faith and the power of worship.
Maverick City Music’s "Good News" tour stop in Houston was more than just a concert—it was a deeply personal, spiritual encounter. For me, it was an unforgettable experience of joy, connection, and the kind of unity that only live music can bring. As a photographer, I’m proud to have captured moments of this incredible night, but more than anything, I’m thankful to have witnessed the raw, real worship that Maverick City continues to lead. If you ever get the chance to see them live, I can tell you firsthand—it’s an experience you’ll never forget.
